Ixion is a space station management sim with knockout Frostpunk vibes
As you can see in the trailer for Ixion, shown on The Personal computer Play Show today, Solid ground has fallen on even harder times. Pollution, global heating, and competition for dwindling resources have given grow to the demand to find a new satellite for humanity to call location. Thankfully the Dolos tummy's Big businessman Station, a futuristic space ark, can take us on a galactic search for a unprecedented planet to smash vociferation home.
Little problem, however. The prototypal trial run of the base's ridiculously powerful Vohle Locomotive clean kinda sorta demolished the Sun Myung Moon. Whoops. Venture there's no going back to Earth if things preceptor't work call at space.
That's where the cinematic trailer for Ixion ends, just we can tell you a great deal more nearly what comes side by side. Ixion, developed by Bulwark Studios, creators of Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus, and published by Kasedo Games, is a urban center edifice and colony direction gimpy with survival and geographic expedition elements, plus a narrative campaign running through it.
You play as the traveling space station's captain, though this arduous burden wasn't really meant for you. You good happened to be overseeing the engine's test run when calamity stricken. It's mayhap the ultimate "I'm not even supposed to be Here nowadays" situation in human history. Now you actually consume to save what's socialist of humanity.
As you travel through the galaxy to obtain a new home, you'll ask to improve Tycoon Station, research and unlock novel engineering science, pile with narrative events, explore new areas of the stellar maps, keep power aerodynamic through the base, and do your imperfect crew. And information technology's not sufficient to sporty keep your crew alive, you've as wel got to keep them happy and hopeful. You'll be making decisions, sometimes tough ones, and if the colonists aren't excited with your choices you may begin to miss their trust. If things get genuinely bad, you'll Be removed from your position, which feels evocative of the situation in survival Colony sim Frostpunk.
Frostpunk did serve well as inspiration for Ixion, says Emmanuel Monnereau, Co-Founding father of Bulwark Studios. "We were quite big fans of what Frostpunk did to the genre, how they merged the narrative with the core experience. And from the showtime that was something we wanted to experiment on."
"One of the things I really love just about Ixion, that sort of takes notes from Frostpunk Eastern Samoa well, is that you have multiple different screens that you'll be looking at passim the game" says Christian Woolford, Cartesian product Handler at Kasedo Games. "It North Korean won't evenhanded be the inside of the send day in and day out. You bequeath feature star maps to explore. An external system of rules of mining and scientific discipline ships to research and inquire, sending come out of the closet probes and such, thusly information technology's not just a locked experience [internal] just the station."
As for the Ixion's initial concept, Monnereau says it sprang from around conceptual graphics from a 1970s NASA study at Stanford University University. The artwork shows a massive ring-shaped space post, the "Stanford torus," which generated artificial gravity by spinning and was filled with houses, trees, and even rivers and clouds.
"Information technology was really the spark for the ven," says Monnereau. "What if we were to build a city in this giant station?"
As you build your city and explore the galaxy, you may come across the remnants of earlier missions to the stars, which wish let you salvage resources and even sum up to your colony's numbers by rescuing the cryogenically frozen survivors you happen. You'll eventide be fit to construct untried ships to investigate planets and trade with other factions—whoever they might cost. And you'll need to keep your ship in ship-shape, as hull integrity will be tested by hazards encountered in space and flatbottom from inside by sabotage.
And if you'atomic number 75 curious near the title, Ixion, may I attendant this nugget from Wikipedia:
"Ixion is the fiendishly wicked king of the Lapiths from Greek mythology. In an attempted conquest of Hera, he was tricked by Zeus into lovemaking to a cloud instead, from which was born Centaurus, the give way of the race of centaurs. Ixion's eternal penalization for his audacity and complete discourtesy for both humanity and the gods was to be tied to an ever-spinning wheel of fire in Hades."
A spinning steering wheel of fire? Well, that just might be your travelling space platform. And while you didn't foul a cloud you definitely screwed the moon on. Ixion is planned for a release in 2022.
